Most times when we use the words “swamp buggy” we happen to be talking about the racing vehicles that compete down in Naples, Florida every year but this time we are actually talking about the equivalent of a motorized pontoon boat with monster truck tires on it. These vehicles can be found at various mud bog and mega truck events around the south and they are usually populated (like here) by beer swilling party goers out having a good time. We have never seen one actually compete in a tug of war before so this video was an eye-opener for us.
Now you all know that the elements for success in this tugs are pretty basic. You need weight, traction, and more power than the other guy. You also need a bomb proof drivetrain that is able to withstand the massive strain that gets put on it when both rigs are pulling as hard as they can against each other, right? This thing, with all of its passengers definitely has the weight angle of things covered and we’re thinking it also had some of the gearing angle covered as well. The tires are slightly smaller than some of the other trucks there thereby the final drive ratio would be alittle shorter, lending it a little more of a “lever” to get the work done.
The party barge sees some stout competition in the form and different trucks and as the video closes it has pretty much run into the one vehicle that it cannot just drag sway at will. They should have stuck around for the definitive winner in the final battle because that looked like one heck of a back and forth see-saw competition. Although it could be because the passengers had all disembarked by that point. The driver changes once or twice on the buggy. There’s a guy driving and then a woman in a bikini. Tough to say who the more qualified operator was here. Give it a watch for yourself!
