To Show The Dangers Of A Hot Car In The Summer, A Phoenix News Team Baked Cookies

(Photo: KPNX 12 Phoenix) Channel 12 News in Phoenix, Arizona decided that they needed something dramatic to show the dangers of a hot car in summertime. While the Phoenix area is at the far end of the scale when it comes to “hot” summers, any car can become hot enough to injure or kill, and it doesn’t take a triple-digit temperature to heat up an interior to sauna levels…ask anyone that has ever owned a Ford with black vinyl seats. Sadly, this basic fact has to be repeated over and over, so the Channel 12 news decided to prove that a closed car in the sunlight turns into an oven by using the dashboard of one of the news vehicles to cook a tray of cookies during a 115 degree day. Yes, it took five hours, but while the cookies were a bit whimsical, they also noted that they had video data collection issues because the GoPro they used kept shutting down due to the heat. I know I’m preaching to the choir here, folks, but use common sense and take care of your young ones and pets if they are going to travel with you.
