If there is one thing that us North Americas are innately good at, it is crashing/wrecking stuff. From demolition derbies to building implosions, we know how to destroy our stuff with a kind of style not natural to other parts of the world. This video is more proof of that fact. It was shot at an unnamed circle track during an unnamed event. Lots of circle tracks run a “night of destruction” during their racing season that features jumps, demo derbies, etc. From the looks of it, the feature attraction at this event was a long distance jump featuring a sad sack 1974 International truck and a school bus that gets the worst of it.
Outside of the wild and wanton destruction in this video, you have to consider the sheer balls of the guy driving the truck. Chances are this fellow is not a Rhodes scholar or even a GED holder. He’s just a man with a dream, some steel ramps, and balls the size of church bells. Hurtling a 10,000lb truck through the sky is one thing, but to do it with the expressed intention of crashing like a Kamikaze pilot into the side of a school bus is truly off the deep end. Think about that. A school bus as a cushion!

This is Western Speedway in Victoria British Columbia on Vancouver Island. This is from about ten years ago. I’m currently the announcer there and got the chance to meet Brian at the Northwest Nationals last year.
