Denver Schutz’s high speed encounter with the wall at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield during the March Meet sure was scary. We ran a killer sequence of photos from the incident here on the blog, but now video from the top end has surfaced. The footage, shot by Dawn Mazi-Hovsepian captures the intensity of true level of creepiness the incident had. To see it in real time gives you the picture on just how fast Schutz reacted and drove the car to prevent a bad scene from becoming a full on disaster. When the car looks to be heading at the wall for a perpendicular meeting, Schutz gets it to rotate about 90 degrees and minimize the impact.
While our photo sequence froze the incident one frame at a time, you really need to check out this video to see how volatile and wild a modern top fuel slingshot is. Kudos to Dawn for getting the whole deal on video. This is wild stuff! Also, the sounds the car makes after hitting the wall at the top end are enough to make the hair on your next stand up. The death throes of a nitro burning Hemi.
Press play and watch Denver Schutz drive his ass off.
