According to the Edmunds “Straightline” blog, Ford has confirmed that production will begin on a 2.0L four-cylinder Ecoboost engine. The plant will be offered in several models across the Ford range and will make a reported 230 hp at its introduction.
The little engine is expected to be a torque hound for its size as well, producing nearly 250 ft/lbs out of just 120ci. The goal of engineers was to produce V6 power with the economy of a four-cylinder engine.
Here’s what we think. The SVT Focus could be insanely bitchin’ with this motor in it. We owned one of the last generation SVT Foci and it was a killer go-kart like car but lacked serious throttle punch. With the addition of all this horsepower, that car would be an awesome driver and if equipped with AWD could scare the pants of Subaru WRX pilots.
We’d also dig one in a Mustang as a corner carving model. With lots of weight off the nose and a weight reduction program with respect to the rest of the car, that could be a fun piece as well.
