The independent front suspension used in GM trucks has long been the bane of hard core truck guys. IFS is a pain the rear end to deal with when lifting a 4×4 as opposed to the simplicity of a solid front axle, there are more parts and pieces that can fail and need service, and as this video will show, things can get wonky in a hurry when big power is fed through the front end. Guys who are pulling modified Duramax trucks have now largely swapped to big, beefy aftermarket tie rods or they use steel sleeves to essentially brace up the OEM or OEM replacement parts on their truck. We’ve personally seen many modified D-Max trucks at the drags experience the front end wobble you’ll see the guys in this video experience, but we have never actually seen one go full on dink toed, as the trucks do here. The scary part of this happening on the strip is that we’re talking about 7,000lb trucks running in the 11s and 12s. At least during a pull the trucks are only going a few miles per hour.
Insane power can be made with today’s crop of modern diesel engines. Here are several examples of engines with far more hair on their chests than the driveline components transferring all of that power.
