For the first time ever, the Ford Focus RS will be coming to the USDM market, and we’ve been salivating ever since we got the news. A 345 horsepower, all wheel drive rally rocket that aims straight at the Subaru STI with a sinister grin is something we certainly can get behind, but in Europe this is just one more advancement on a car that was already a force to be reckoned with. Hot hatchbacks in Europe are the affordable muscle for many people, and the Focus RS has usually been at or near the top of the lists for years now. I got to see one of these on my trip to Ireland last year, and compared to about everything over there, it stood out in the same way a Ferrari F40 would stand out parked in front of a Kroger’s.
In a sea of subdued black, gray and blue cars, the neon green Ford looked as wild as any 1970s Mopar, and sounded like Colin McRae’s own rally car when the owner fired up the turbocharged five-cylinder and sped off.
Since we still have some time before we get a crack at the new Focus RS, what better way to explain why the new car is so important than to find a review of the last-generation car? Sure, a TopGear clip might have done it, but instead, we found an Italian named Davide Cironi, who does YouTube video reviews of cars. In the tight, winding hillsides, what does he think of a rude, crude, and unabashedly loud Ford? Italy makes a surprising entry in the hot hatch category, the Renault Megane RS, and it’s usually battling for top billing with the Focus RS. What do you think his impressions are?
Will I be the only one that wanted this “putts” to finish this road test by driving into a wall? Sorry..sorry. 🙁
After watching this I feel I really need to shut the tv off go outside and do something worthwhile lol
