The Henry Ford museum has a section called Automobiles in American life, and since 1987, all the cars in that section have been on display with their hoods closed. Museum officials have decided to spice things up a program called “Engines Exposed” that will, gasp, show the cars with their hoods up! We know, we know, this is crazy stuff.
The cars are displayed in the open inside the exhibit hall so it isn’t like they are behind velvet ropes or anything, you’ll be able to get right up on them to see into their engine bays. A man named Bob Casey is the curator of transportation, and being that curators are normally the worrying type, this idea of opening the cars hoods and exposing them to potential tomfoolery from guests, while mundane to normal gearheads has most likely prevented him from sleeping for weeks.
We don’t think that museum visitors would be any more prone to mess with stuff than your run of the mill car show attendee, and it is beyond rare that someone fiddles with a strangers car at a show so we think curator Bob can rest semi-easy.
The Henry Ford is an amazing place to visit, if you are ever in the area and can spend some time there we highly recommend it. That recommendation stands whether or not the hoods of some display cars are open or closed.
