BangShift Daily Tune Up: Boss Barracuda – The Surfaris – (1966?)

With tunes proclaiming the superiority of SS396 Chevelles, Little Cobras, GTOs, and Mustangs, it is about time we heard from someone standing up for the Chrysler set. We dug up this gem from the Surfaris that comes from the middle (1964-1966 we’re not sure) of the 1960s and contains all of that good natured trash talking we love so much in these old car tunes. The singer talks about blowing off other cars on the race track and showing them only the fastback roof of the first generation Barracudas. As he proudly states in the song, the singer isn’t going to let anyone, “Boss his Boss Barracuda around!” This is a great old car song that many of you may have never heard before!

Pretty cool. I never heard that song before. According to my friend “Mr. Music” it came out in 1964. Interesting how he mentions having “dual carbs”. I don’t think anybody was making a multi-carb intake of any kind for a 273 back then(or ever). Just sounded good I guess.

Car songs in the 60s were like some early country songs – have to include a train, pickup, drinking in a bar, women trouble, etc. For the cars it’s 4 speed, dual quad, positraction (for any make/model), slick, revving, rail and such. 🙂
