We stopped by Custom Automotive Machine in Weymouth, Massachusetts, last weekend to beg a favor off shop owner and operator Dana Hard. We had managed to completely botch the removal of broken exhaust studs out of Goliath’s exhaust manifold and we knew Dana had the tools to help us out. That and we wanted to see the motors he was working on and see how his Funny Car was coming along for the 2010 season. We weren’t disappointed!
The shop has a true BangShift.com connection as Dana’s right hand man, Jon Wall, is a forum member. More importantly he is a Funny Car racer who has his own injected alky flopper and drives the shop’s blown alky flop as well. Jon’s been in the low 6’s, so the man has serious skills and cajones!
The shop always has a variety of work going on. When we stopped by we saw some cool small blocks under construction, a couple completed big blocks of both street and race variety, and even a Rover engine that the guys had hot rodded for a customer. Probably the coolest old school piece was a 400ci blown Poncho that is going into the restored Dick Jesse “Mr. Unswitchable” Funny Car.
In the back of the shop is a work area where Jon’s chassis was being prepped, Dana was finishing up on the last loose ends on his Ford powered flopper and a blown Hemi-powered, Fiat altered was sitting, inching toward completion.
We toured the whole place, even the area to the rear of the shop that a local car club is headquartered in and uses the space to build their cars.
Dana did a great job in getting our busted studs out and we were snapping photos like a Japanese tourist. Hit the link below for a full gallery of all the sights at one of the longest established local machine shops in our area!
