BangShift Daily Tune Up: GTO Rock (Artist Unknown) 1970

I am a total sucker for these promotional songs and albums that Detroit manufacturers put out in the 1960s. Jim Wangers seems to have been the king of these things promoting Pontiac and specifically the GTO. They had a legitimate hit with Ronny and the Daytonas Little GTO back in the early 1960s, they drafted Paul Revere and the Raiders into the fray in the late 1960s and we’re not sure who they pressed into service to make this two song collection for the 1970 model year.

This is cheesy, but I can’t help but love it. Seriously. When has anyone made anything cool enough to have songs written about it in the last 15 years?

Wow, and I thought Classical Gas had a great arrangment (and it does), but these two promo tunes are really well done and very nice to listen to. Great melodies, nice vocal and instrumental arrangments. I wonder if any of the “Wrecking Crew” are on those? Great find Brian.
