BangShift Question Of The Day: What Is The Coolest Form Of Amateur Racing?

As I will be fully immersed in sportsman drag racing this weekend at the 2013 NHRA New England Nationals, I’ve been thinking about amateur racing and all of its different forms. From the dirt ovals of the south, to the banked short tracks of midwest, to the drag strips that dot the country from coast to coast, to the off road courses of the west, and the mud bogging pits of heartland, there is an amazing range of amateur/sportsman racing out there to participate in. What’s the coolest way to go racing on a budget that you can afford? What’s the coolest form of amateur racing to watch? Hell, I failed to mention land speed racing, autocross, and probably two dozen other forms of wheel driven competition from my list.

While we can all appreciate the big boys of any form pounding on one another with the virtually unlimited budget, there’s something truly cool about seeing guys who were welding, laying train track, repairing plumbing, or teaching school earlier in the day, strapping on a helmet and getting after it in a race car. There’s a great element of reality to that whole scene which rules.

Thats hard to say. Having been to so many kinds of motorsports, I have to say drag racing. I’ve been closer to the pros than most people will have the chance to be, but I still like a good test and tune night and bracket race the best. Followed very closely by everything else.
I have a friend who said that if we got the leaders of every country that hates us, and wants to blow us up, and took them to a clay track stock car race, or a motorcycle hill climb, they would change their minds about us.

Something like Lemons would be cool. Drive all day, don’t take it too seriously. I just never warmed up to drag racing. The fun just doesn’t last long enough.
