I’ve always thought that one of the more entertaining catch phrases for the sport of drag racing could have been, “Drag racing, our stuff explodes sitting still.” In the case of Francis Johnson and his Firebird, this is the 100% truth and this video proves it. In the film, you’ll see Johnson’s car sitting patiently behind the water box, waiting for another car to burnout and stage. All of a sudden, Johnson’s car bursts into a massive fire, due to a leaking fuel line. In no time, the whole nose of the car is engulfed and the flames are licking 10-15ft into the air. It looks like curtains for the Pontiac, but it isn’t.
There’s fire fighting crews on the scene less than a minute after the initial fireball and they attack the blaze properly…from the bottom. Less than two minutes after the inferno started, it is 100% extinguished. According to the guy who posted the video, repairs were made that night and the car went two freaking rounds the same evening of the fire! That’s dedication.

It was obviously the bypass line on the fetzer valve. I’m gonna go to my truck and get some gauze pads, 30 weight ball bearings, and about 10 quarts of antifreeze.
Prestone, no wait, …better make it Quaker State.
Guess he didn’t the recall notice yet……oh well. Look on the bright side…..there is one less gm product out there.
