While most hardcore gearheads know Bill Golden for his exploits in factory backed Mopar stockers and super stockers then ultimately as the longtime pilot of the famed “Little Red Wagon” 1965 Dodge Dodge A100 wheelstander, far fewer know that Golden had a puling truck for a time as well. The pulling truck is a 1983 Dodge shortbed pickup with an alcohol burning 480ci Hemi. It was a two wheel drive truck and Golden campaigned it on the USHRA pulling circuit that was so popular in the 1980s. Being a two wheel drive class truck, it would have pulled the front wheels off the ground nearly at the hit of the throttle and kept them there until the throttle was cut. This was no problem for Golden because that seemed to be his favorite driving orientation anyway. The big Hemi is backed by a TCI built 727 automatic and the whole thing is anchored by a massive rear axle that was scarfed from a 5-ton truck. The rear is a two speed with selectable gear ratios of 6.70 and 9.30!
The seller claims that the truck runs and after a quick going over and some new tires, it could be used in pulling contests again. We dig the hell out of the old school Dick Cepek, “giant puller” tires. Those look too bitchin’ on the rear of the truck. The asking price for the truck is $35,000 and it is a one off with some truly boss history. Is that too much? We’d pay it in six seconds if we had the cash right now!

It’s awesome that you posted a link to a video to see this in action. Thanks for the effort.
Hey know how you feel as I also own a forgotten piece of history that was originally built and owned by Bill “Maverick” Golden. Unfortunately though I have not had as much luck getting any photos or other items so I can complete restoring it. It only was ran as near as I can tell 5 or 6 times at most down the track and half (or more) of those at small venues.
We need to get these pieces of history together sometime for a photo session!
