Big Launches! More Drag Action Photos From US-60 Drag Strip’s Nostalgia Day

Big Launches! More Drag Action Photos From US-60 Drag Strip’s Nostalgia Day

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – More of the Lowhorn-n-Lark show in here too, but they aren’t the only ones trying to get the crowd excited.  One interesting thing about the Chevy-powered Lowhorn Falcon is its driver.  Adam Lowhorn barely out of his teens and can wheel that three-pedal car better than most veterans.  He’s a natural.  Sometimes his dry-hops shoot the nose up higher than when he leaves the beams.  Its definitely a show.

Dustin Corn pilots both the Lumpy Corvette and the Hi-Jinx rear-engine funny.  Hi-Jinx is quicker by far, but Lumpy will get the fans to their feet with its violent wheelies.  Not to be outdone is the stubby ’57 that has been owned by the same guy for 35+ years.  It seems if its pointed in the right direction he is getting after it.  Definitely want them taking solo passes when they are set on kill.  Wheels-up launches were definitely on the menu that day and even the ‘Sour Kraut’ bug got in on the action.  The tire-wrinkle shot of the burgundy three-window coupe is one of my favorite photos of the year.  I’m not sure why – it just looks good to me.

Enjoy.

    Thanks for the great pix.

I’d rather watch (and look at pictures of) these kinds of cars that megabuck pro mods any day.

    This is for car guys….
