Back in 2009 the sledgehammer ZR1 Corvette made a triumphant return to the American automotive landscape. The killer 638-hp Corvette was a magazine darling and a highly marked up dealer cash cow. The car became something for every elite “hot rodder” to own. Unfortunately, it seems that the bloom is off the rose.
GM is now offering incentives to get these cars moving off of dealer lots. The cash cow has become an albatross around their necks. Shockingly, there is still unsold 2009 inventory sitting on dealer lots.
GM is offering $5,000 cash back and 0% financing for 72 months on 2009 ZR1 models. That works out to a monthly payment of $1,700. On 2010 examples, GM will give you $3,000 back or 0% for 60 months. That means a trim monthly payment of $2,000 per month. Yikes!
It seems like the newest ZR1 is headed for the same quiet death that the first one suffered. If sales are so bad that 09 models are still sitting at dealers collecting dust, we have to wonder how long the package will be offered. We don’t want to see it go, but someone’s got to buy these things!
