Woah baby is this thing awesome! Behold this 1968 C10 long bed truck (shush it short bed guys!) with its factory equipped Turbo 400 transmission and factory equipped 396ci big block engine as well. That’s right, this is a “real” factory big block truck and outside of a respray of orange paint it is exactly as it left the production line in 1968. The interior is minto with its dual colored bench seat and factory red carpet as well. Why are we freaking out a little over this truck? Factory half ton big block trucks were not all that common and one has to think about the motivations regarding the person who bought this one new in ’68.
This truck weighs about 3,500lbs and the biggest engine you could get in it back then was the “Hi-Torque” 396ci rat motor. We can see someone optioning a cab and chassis one ton with a big block for work purposes but the fact that this is a C10 with the biggest motor available leads us to believe that someone with a hot rod heart was clicking the option sheet when it was bought. It is important to note that the 396 in the 1968 trucks was rated at 310hp and 400 lb/ft of torque at 3,200 RPM. Why? These were cammed for low RPM usable horsepower and torque. Unlike their harder spinning car counterparts the 396 engines in trucks were intended to help haul…trailers, not ass. The seller here seems to indicate that the thing is box stock which is cool because you are only a camshaft away from Chevelle and Camaro horsepower. Unless you guys out there know something different!
We’re in love with this thing because it has that factory engine and the factory transmission still in it. The guy selling it wants $13,500 and frankly we think that is on the money. Finding one of these trucks that has not been molested is rare indeed. Think the original owner screwed with small block muscle car guys in ’68?

It is also a factory AC truck. Also rare in 1968. But, 3500 lbs? My small powered ’67 GMC C1500 was weighed at 4200 lbs.
Yeah I was surprised at 3500 too. I’ve got a bare bones ’82 C10 long bed and just recently scaled it. With me and a full tank of gas, it was right at 4100.
Very cool truck though!!
