Second Annual Pocono Drag Lodge Reunion This Weekend

Second Annual Pocono Drag Lodge Reunion This Weekend

The Pocono Drag Lodge operated in Pennsylvania from 1963 to 1972 when the facility was ravaged by Hurricane Agnes. During the years it operated the track was home to everything from weekly grudge racing to big time (for the era) match races and shows. While the track has been closed for nearly 40 years, the site still remains, and the spirit of the place has not died either.

Going on the success of last year’s Drag Lodge Reunion, the second annual event will be held this Saturday. Gates open to the public at 9am and there will be a car show (last year’s drew 400 cars, expect tons more this year), historic story telling and memory sharing, a collection of locally built and raced dragsters, personalities from the radio stations that used to run the track’s screamer ads, and a whole bunch more.

If we lived in the general area, we’d be on this event with bells attached. The actual show is held on the old track, which is overgrown and essentially turned back into nature. Thankfully there are people out there willing to work hard to preserve the history of these olds tracks. As we’re sure they used to say in those screamers ads, “BE THERE!”
