Drift Wreck! Ride Along As This British Drifter And His Hot Rod Take A Hard Shot!

The car is cool, the circuit is cool, but the ending is not so cool. In this video you are going to be riding along with the driver of the Urchfab Ford Popular drift car as it rips sideways around the Castle Combe circuit in England. The car is an early 1950s Ford Popular body (the easiest way to give American readers a visual is to tell them that it looks like an Anglia) sans the nose. Power comes from a hotted up Saab turbo four banger and as you’ll see in the video, it has more than enough power to light up the tires and get sideways. The fabrication work on the car looks great as you’re able to admire it before the high speed crash occurs and you are really able to admire it when the driver climbs out of the car.

One of the things that makes this wreck somewhat unique is that the car is right hand drive and here in the USA this video would not be as dramatic because the car would be rotating towards the passenger side for impact. In England? Yeah, there it is setting the driver up to take the brunt of this one and he does. This is a HARD shot to the wall but he’s abe to collect his senses and hope out of the thing on his own.

As big as the initial shot is (and it is BIG) the following couple of after shocks don’t like they were any sort of party either. We notice that the driver has the attachment points for a HANS or similar device built into his helmet but he is not wearing said device. When you watch the way his noggin flops around in here, you’ll be thinking the same thing we were. PUT IT ON!

We are glad that the dude is OK and sorry about his car. It seems like he’ll fix ‘er up and make it even better going forward.
