So the soup can with the string attached to it here at the remote BangShift HQ in Florida went nuts last night with reports that Jeff Lutz was testing at Indy and laid down a big 6.97/216-mph lap there. This would be one of the quickest laps that Lutz has ever made on the ’57 and certainly the fastest with respect to MPH. Only Tom Bailey has ever gone faster in a Drag Week car with his final 217-mph shot at Bowling Green on the final day of the 2013 campaign. So what is Lutz doing at Indy testing his car? Word on the street is that he’s headed to Oklahoma with it to take on the crew of the hit television series Street Outlaws. We know some of their stuff is fast, but we don’t think that even the infamous “Murder Nova” has seix second 200+ mph elapsed times in it. That being said, it isn’t like that show is filmed on as well prepared a surface as Lutz got last night at Indy, where Jeff Conley always has the place tuned up and ready to go.
Street Outlaws has been an amazingly popular show. At one point, the math said that their reruns were out-pulling NHRA national events by something like a 2:1 margin with respect to viewers. While lots of car guys and drag races like to scoff at the show, they seemingly all watch. If Lutz is heading to Oklahoma to be a part of the show, it will sure prove how “unscripted” it really is. Will an outsider like Lutz be allowed to some in a clean house? Will there be some roadblocks thrown his way? All of that remains to be seen. We do know that he is very familiar with being in an environment where cameras are present 24/7 and always rolling for footage. For at least a couple years at Drag Week well stocked video crews have been all up in his business all week. The dude knows that end of the deal as good or better than anyone.
Admittedly, we don’t watch the show much…but if all of this is true, we’re going to have to turn in to see how this whole thing pans out.
Stay tuned…literally. If/When something new and exciting happens on this front we’ll bring it to you!
Just checked out Street Outlaws on the web. Looks like a pretty stupid show. ~J~
Thank god we got your opinion on the show even though you obviously never watched it. Hey everyone, Street Outlaws is a pretty stupid show… J Ford says so. Why don’t you watch the damn show then give your opinion jackass.
I personally really like the show and if they were on the same time, I’d watch Street Outlaws over an NHRA event.
Hope it’s worth it Jeff !
Having seen how Jeff behaves, I don’t know if the producers would show him. He comes across as a class act guy who doesn’t talk a bunch of shit and seems to just get it done. Not good for TV drama.. probably won’t air it with the Murdered Nova. Hell, who knows. If there are more details I might try to sneak up there and watch. What, they don’t let people watch on their closed set / runway “street” races?
oops – forgot the meat of the story. Kickass run Jeff!
I agree, good job, Jeff!! ~J~
Show them how its done out here Jeff, MURDER the nova!!!
I’ll admit that the show is hokey. No doubt about it. BUT, how can a guy not like a sleeper old farm truck that goes like hell and looks like it ought to be in line for the crusher ? Admit it, every one of us would love to pull up beside some kid in a Honda or Subie and spank his butt with a 4500 pound behemoth. The only problem is that some of those Subies are now FAST !
Fast but don’t LAST!
It was an awesome pass. The car looked flat angry after all of the trouble that he experienced during Drag Week. Good night at Indy. Several NMCA cars testing as well…..
With all that crap going on over in Yellowbullet, true or not, guess he needs the money.
Good for him … go and drag their asses Lutz
We get the reruns over here in Eastern Europe and they are TRASHY, simply trailer trash!!!
Sad, because it *could* be something worth watching.
If Lutz is gonna make a hit at it, we’ll look forward to it, but otherwise that pathetic mess of a “series” isn’t allowed in our home.
jeff lutz, class act .jeff does his raceing with a real steel car,not some pro-mod tryin to pose as a street car,so go kick their asses!!!! show them what a real streetcar will do!!!!!!
yes we all know the show is hollywooded,i did some street raceing my self ,it ain’t handled like they show it,@the cops don’t play either!!
lutz is friends with murder nova & big chief he did work on both their cars
Jeff has worked on their cars this summer. No doubt he can take anything they got including Murder Nova. One thing about it though Jeff is an up and coming racer and will get a media mileage lot of publicity out of this. Give them Hell Jeff!
Love watching Jeff and his 57 compete, wish him luck, was bummed when he went out at drag week. He is a class act. Hope to see him at drag week in the future.
So if the show is for real how come they all don’t get arrested? Is street racing leagal in Oklahoma? What more evidence does the DA need?. It is all on tape. I think it is all a hoax. The ask permision from the authorities and they block of the streets for them. In my mind that is the only way they can get away with it.
Yep
What really kills me is how the show is so set up. If it were really real life it would be meet me here and we race there. No putting VHT on the tires and all that other bull crap. It would literally be show up and race. Real sleepers don’t need VHT and all that other prerace crap. They aren’t supposed to be like a race car. They’re supposed to be sneaky. Reality shows bite. Real guys with real cars on a deserted road in the middle of nowheresville is what it is all about. Jeff is an upstanding guy and I hope that if he does do the show he doesn’t let all the TV producers and editoral staff turn him into a joke. Because that’s what makes TV shows sell……
What I find funny is the lights they use. Big generators to light up the night sky. Why not just shoot up a flare? It’s bull. They may have some fast cars but the show is a hoax.
