Dean Papadeas is a name that many avid drag racing fans don’t know but they should. Papadeas was the man who single-handedly changed the way that drag races were filmed and presented on television. He, through his Main Event Entertainment company, invented the swoopy camera moves, in your face techniques and frenetic editing cuts that are now standard practice in the presentation of racing today.
In the videos below, shot at two Funny Car match races, one at Englishtown, New Jersey and the other, the Fall Funny Car Nationals at New England Dragway in Epping, New Hampshire, Papadeas does a masterful job of shooting these events as though they were the most important drag races of all time.
Berserko Bobby Doerrer is on the “call” through all the video and some of the greatest Funny Cars of the 1980s appear at the racers.
