Fresh From The Toaster: The Rumble Of A Healthy Small-Block Chevy In A Scion xB?

Fresh From The Toaster: The Rumble Of A Healthy Small-Block Chevy In A Scion xB?

So Scion is no more. I’ll be honest, I won’t be sad to see it go, because from my point of view, Scion never really did make much sense and after the first couple of years, you could tell that Toyota didn’t know what the hell to do with them. The original three-car plan was simple enough: the xA, a strange little hatchback that always made me think of the Poo emoji, the tC, which I thought would have sold better as a Toyota Celica, and the brave little toaster itself, the xB. I know Scion was targeting people my age (recent high-school graduates who didn’t want a standard entry level car) but with the exception of the tC, I never saw any younger Scion drivers…oddly enough, Toyota’s youth brand ended up appealing to older people. It’s best to look at Scion as an experiment that didn’t pay off for Toyota. Shame that the tC didn’t make it, it wasn’t a bad little coupe. But the real shame was the true standout vehicle from the beleaguered marque: the xB. “The toaster” is a neat and useful little thing, even if it’s best described as “cute and funky”.

Unless, of course, the engine bay gets stuffed with V8 power and it’s converted to rear-wheel-drive.
