HERETIC! This Ford Falcon XY Drifter Is Rough, Ready, And Powered By…You Guessed It…

To some people, there are certain cars you just don’t screw with. Mopar E-bodies need to have a Pistol Grip and either a 340 Six-Pack or a big-block. Mustang guys cling to Ford small-block power like none other, especially in the face of LS swaps. And many insist that no matter what, no six cylinder is worth replacing a V8 for. These are the kinds of people that will chastise you at car shows for not following along lock-step with what they consider “right”. Wrong color, wrong trim, yada, yada.

Do those kinds of guys exist in Australia? As passionate as the Holden vs. Ford thing is over there, this particular 1971 Ford Falcon might tweak several people the wrong way. The rough XY was always going to become a drift car, but the original plan was to stuff in a turbocharged 4.oL Ford six. However, builder James Mackie’s plan went a bit south and he realized that a LS1 would fit the bill for what he needed. Judging from the footage that Fullboost got of the XY sliding around, we doubt that he’s bothered with the “correctness” of the car…
