Yes, the current drag radial world record held by Kyle Heuttel was set on a losing pass! In this video you will see Shawn Ayers who is driving the Fletcher Cox owned Mustang actually catch a win light with a 3.86 second run to the quicker 3.81 of Heuttel! No matter what the class is the name of the game in drag racing is getting to the end first and sometimes you can steal one by leaving your opponent standing there at the starting line and that is what Ayers does. It becomes really clear on the instant replay and he was gone first. Ayers had about one complete rotation of the tire and the suspension fully at work by the time that Heuttel left. Was he overly concerned about red lighting? Perhaps more concerned with setting a record than winning a round? Just late, like happens to the best of us? We’re not sure, but Ayers was on it like his hair was on fire.
While we have not seen the time slip we wonder how close the margin of victory was at the top end of the track. Obviously Heuttel was reeling him in like a fish but he did not have enough race track to actually catch him and Ayers took the victory. We are taking NOTHING away from the Cox/Ayers boys. About two weeks ago their 3.86 run would have been historically quick and that just is not the case anymore. With this weekend’s event that is coming from Atlanta, we think that someone may go into the 70s. It is going to be 60 degrees as the high there on Saturday and the Atlanta track has been recently resurfaced, it is going to be a freaking launch pad.
Will that 3.81 survive the weekend? We’ll find out but it is damned impressive when you see it here!
Running an 1/8 mile drag race is like running 250 miles at Daytona. Both are only half a race.
Congratulations, this is the dumbest comment ever.
Spoken like a typicalsmall block Chevy lover.
Wasnt just you that thought that.Well run event ran in a timely fashion. Not a bunch of dipshits clogging the starting line all day, records reset numerous times etc.Looks like its foggy. It wasnt that was JP traction compound lingering in the air.Ranks in the top 5 events Ive attended.
