We thought it was pretty awesome when John Hennessey went into the drag strip business a couple of years ago with the purchase of Lonestar Motorsports Park in Sealy, Texas. After all, his shop is located at the front door of the place basically and when the place needed an owner he stepped in to make it happen. Well, Hennessey has decided to step away from the race track operation end of things and his sale could be your gain!
The asking price for the IHRA sanctioned facility is $2.7-million which is not pocket change but it isn’t totally mental either. When you consider the location of the track just off of I-10, the fact that the huge property has value, and that you have a turn-key, ready to roll strip at your disposal it is certainly a price that makes some sense.
Running any sort of racing facility is a ton of work and so much work that many people wilt under the pressure. We’re not saying that is what happened here but it is one of those “hardest jobs you’ll ever love” type deals. The people who succeed in running tracks like Lonestar Motorsports Park are the ones who invest their heart and soul into it. Live and die by what the racers want and come up with unique ways to fill the stands. Hopefully someone with that makeup is the one to buy this place and keep it running.
The good news is that the track is operating and will continue to operate until a buyer is found and ownership is transferred.
So…who wants to own a drag strip? Lonestar Motorsports Park could be your jam!
