Brandon Booher is a well respected and successful NHRA alcohol dragster competitor who is currently running 9th nationally in the points. The Lucas Oil Series racer has been pounding the pavement hard over the last few years and he’s always a guy to watch when his tow rig pulls through the gate. Booher recently continued his successful 2016 campaign with a win at the NHRA Lucas Oil Series regional event in Joliet, Illinois at Route 66 Raceway. In the video below we get to ride in the cockpit with Booher as he races in the final round and claims that victory we just told you about.
Knowing the outcome does not really wreck the video because the truly cool stuff is watching how close the race is, watching what Booher has to do in the cockpit, and then seeing his reaction at the top end of the track after the cars cross the stripe. Honorable mention goes to the tachometer which runs its way into territories that will have you making the same faces we were! 10,000+ RPM with 500+ blown cubic inches means massive power and acceleration that very few people reading this could ever understand (us included).
Booher’s car uses a torque converter drive instead of the more traditional multi-disc clutch so that is why it sounds different while backing and staging than a clutch car would. Also, take note of Booher shifting the car as it goes down the track. He has to punch the buttons on the steering wheel on time to make sure the car runs the way it should. Those shift lights come awful fast, don’t they?!
