Racing Junk Find: A ZL-1 Camaro Super Stocker That’s Ready To Run

In the ranks of Super Stock, the closer your class designation gets to the beginning of the alphabet, the quicker and faster you’ll be. Naturally, if you find yourself behind the wheel of a SS/A or B machine, your fanny is strapped into some hot iron. Such is the case with this 1969 Camaro ZL-1 which is being sold as part of a liquidation sale. The car is immaculate and quick as hell, having posted sub-nine second elapsed times in the past.

This is a four speed car that can run in either SS/B or B depending on how much you wanted the car to weigh that particular race. Sporting a 427, as it should, the seller lists the horsepower as being 870 and we believe him with the advertised ETs. The car was a national record holder as recently as 2008, so while it may not be the quickest car in the country currently, you have a piece that will qualify well and run like stink on elimination day.

The selling price is $80,000 and while that’s a pile of cash, you’ll be hard pressed to build a competitive car in the A or B ranks for that money. Some of the Super Stock modified machines are well north of $100,000 to build from start to finish. Dumping the clutch, hanging the front end, and ripping that G-Force transmission would be a pretty rad gig!
