So Chad wants you to buy a turn key, stroker big block Chrysler powered Pacer to hit Drag Week with but I think that is a terrible idea. What you NEED to do is to buy a completely ridiculous car, formulate an equally insane plan, and then make it happen so that you finish the car mere minutes before the event and spend the week chasing impossible problems with your one off creation. See, my idea sounds way better than some cool, fast, ready to race car, right? Plus, everyone needs to buy a car from a Craigslist ad that literally contains the line, “Need to get Mom cleaned-up off the streets an back in rehab…”
What you are looking at is a 1960 Fiat 500, which is like a small car, but half the size. It is missing half of the motor, it has a pair of giant rear slicks hanging out of the back end and was at one point used as a street-side promotional display for a body shop. The thing is hilarious looking and we’ve been thinking about how we would finish it. Wouldn’t this thing be a riot with a bad ass S&S V-twin in the back of it if you wanted good old fashioned American noise and power? If you wanted to go fast, a Hybausa with a turbo on it would make this thing a weird looking death trap which is strangely appealing to us. Picture this car with a turbo Hyabusa engine, one of those luggage carrier things on the roof, rolling down the highway with Ahokas, Bailey, Larson, and the rest of the crew at Drag Week. We’d probably carve the tire size back to a 275 or something but you get the picture.
In addition to the abject weirdness of the car, the Craigslist ad is hilarious. Here’s the full text in case it gets yanked –
After setting the model Glue down… I have come to the realization that I can’t build every project that follows me home, Need to get Mom cleaned-up off the streets an back in rehab…. This was used as an advertising prop for a collision shop, missing one cylinder on the eng., most of its there… I was thinking VW eng/trans…. Calls Only! 716-316-3703
Thanks to Bob Wickles for the tip on this wacko Fiat!

drooling….
heck of a good price for one of those, junkers usually go for $4000-$5000
I have seen that setting by the side of the road for years. I always thought it flew off some ones trailer leaving what we fondly call Hooterville (Spencer Speedway).
I traded a guy a 318 for one of these in 1968. I took to Hurlburt Field with me. A guy over in the paint shop painted it orange and my girlfriend’s little sister put black poka dots all over it because she thought it would be cute. I gave it to the kid when she got her license.
55 MPH to speed, 55 MPG.
GTF outta here, 440 6Pac….when were you at Hurlburt Field? I was at Eglin, but I was cruisin’ the beech with my pristine ’61 Silver Hawk!
May 1968 to Dec 1969
I’d rather have the Fiat any day. As for the Pacer, no matter how much lipstick you put on that pig, it’s still a pig. To bad someone wasted good parts on it.
Cool Fiat. I have bought an engine off Craigslist, so a guy could bail his brother out of jail.
Chad should buy the Oscar Meyer wiener wagon and Hemi that !
Now there’s an idea. How much ya think they’d take for it?
Here is my old ’60 Fiat 600 — It was a ton of fun

If this was on the opposite side of the country, it’d be MINE !
Sorry, but I’m with Chad. Pacer all the way.
