(Photos by David Whealon – DW-PHOTOS) – Well folks, September marked the last time that the ECTA would be competing at the Wilmington Air Park in Wilmington, Ohio. The facility is ramping up with lots more business than they have had in the past and effectively, they needed their runway back. The Wilmington Air Park has been a great home to the ECTA for several years and a new location search is well underway for the 2017 season. Before we go into all of that, David Whealon who serves as the official photographer of the organization blasted a ton of great action photos from multiple locations along the course.
The last meet of the year and the last meet of the ECTA at Wilmington, Ohio also featured the Brock’s Performance Street Bike Shootout. Bikes of multiple engine displacements and styles got after it and the speeds were great. Nearly 700 runs were made in 2.5 days of racing before rain came in and ended the meet a couple of hours early on Sunday.
Once again, variety and cool stuff ruled the day and it was a fantastic way to close this chapter in ECTA history. With lots of potential locations being considered and help from Wilmington, the ECTA is hoping to have an idea about 2017 in the next couple of weeks.

I’m going to a meeting of my local automobile club and show them these photos in the hope that they can find a mile long length of asphalt. Indeed the British Government passed legislation to allow public road closures for motor sport some time ago and there might be somewhere near at hand to attract speed freaks from the rest of the UK and even beyond. All it takes is a bit of vision and there could well be photos of a Newcastle Mile on these pages next year…
Gordie – remember, you’ll need TWO miles! Unless you have some kind of Hellacious catch net of some sort. Seriously, 10,000 feet is best though you can live with 9,000. And of course you’ll need area for staging and that sort of thing along with a position near the top end for the fire and rescue crew. Lots to think about but it would be WAY COOL!!!!

What a great set of photos of a great group of vehicles. This would be a lot of fun to attend and participate in. This looks like a very approachable way to get into organized motorsports while having fun perhaps even on a budget. Bravo for the concept , the execution and the participants.

And a reply on my own. We’re really going to miss Wilmington, Ohio. It’s a great little town and the folks were the BEST! But on to a new adventure, hopefully in the Southland but it’ll be what it is.

Rebirth of the Maxton Mile?
Can they lay down some fresh pavement before we go back? I’ve heard that it looks like a washboard.
Contain Connie Kallita. He runs his air cargo business out of an old SAC bomber base in Michigan. A guy ran the Michigan mile in Battle Creek Air Force base. There were issues with guy who ran it.
