BangShift Question Of The Day: If You Could Save One And Only One Of The Sinkhole Corvettes, Which Would You Save?

BangShift Question Of The Day: If You Could Save One And Only One Of The Sinkhole Corvettes, Which Would You Save?

You knew this one was coming after the events of yesterday. In case you just got internet access last night and were unaware, eight Corvettes were swallowed by a large sinkhole inside the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Some a couple of the cars don’t look took badly damaged, others are completely buried in the loose soil and rocks, so those are most likely a write off. Even the ones that appear mostly intact are in such a position that we’re not sure how engineers will get them out. That’s where you come in.

Due to a botched government experiment you have incredible powers of telekinesis for short bursts. This power will allow you to save ONE of the Corvettes which is currently on the verge of heading to the center of the Earth. Here’s the list of cars:

  • 1993 ZR-1 Spyder on loan from General Motors
  • 2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan from General Motors

The other six vehicles were owned by the National Corvette Museum including:

  • 1962 Black Corvette
  • 1984 PPG Pace Car
  • 1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette
  • 1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette
  • 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette
  • 2009 White 1.5 Millionth Corvette

You get to save ONE car from this list before the rest free fall to the Earth’s hot molten core where they will melt in the heat of 1,000 suns. Which one of the cars needs to be saved? Assume the car you are pulling out will be in good shape (even though it isn’t in real life). Choose wisely!

Well, since we own a 61, and the 62 we dated in 45 yrs ago, and it’s on top and relatively unscathed, I’ll be practical and say, the black 62, huh

The only one that doesn’t seem to be replaceable is the 1,000,000th Corvette. It’s not my favorite of the ones that went into the by far, but as milestones, it is a pretty important car.

As much as I like the black/red ’62, it’s not the only one of it’s kind. I could care less about GM’s prototypes. They can never be titled or driven on the street anyways. They are nothing more than 3500 lb paperweights.

Maybe the ’62. It’s the only one that might worth a crap, and barley that. But I’d most like just pour concrete over all of them. Now if there was a ’63 – ’67 427 down there.

62, I’m too tall to drive it but it would be the best looking out of them to sit in my driveway. I walked through there in 05 and wondered if any of the local caves had ever wiped out a museum, a bit ironic now.

I’m onboard with you here! Been in love with the LT5 ZR1 since I visited the plant in the 90’s and saw them building them.

without a shadow of a doubt, the ZR-1 spyder, a truly magnificent car than maybe the PPG Pace car. the 62 while nice is very replaceable.

    The 62 for sure.
But let’s just get them all out of that hole a,s,a,p. It can be done and they are not rotted through yet so they can be repaired no matter how bad they are. It’s a matter of pride and self determination and sod what it costs.

It only makes sense to prioritize the rarest/ most irreplaceable models. That would be the 1,000,000. There is only one, and can only be one.

2nd would be the ZR1 spyder. That’s a one off, but it can either be rebuilt, or build another.
