Craigslist Find: This Stock Looking 1993 GMC Jimmy Is A Twin Turbo, V8, AWD Terror

Craigslist Find: This Stock Looking 1993 GMC Jimmy Is A Twin Turbo, V8, AWD Terror

Thanks to Nolan Kuesel we know that one of the meanest sleepers on the streets of Green Bay, Wisconsin is for sale and it could be heading to a town near you. This 1993 GMC Jimmy is a piece that combines good old fashioned hot rodding ideas and beefy factory parts with modern components to make big power and destroy the self esteem and sleeping habits of muscle car fans everywhere. The Jimmy looks bone-ass-stock. Maybe it sits an inch higher than it otherwise would have but nothing about this thing says, “Holy flaming terror”. The wheels are stock, it has some all terrain tires on it and the Bravada style grill isn’t enough to make anyone look twice. Hell, the turbos probably kill enough noise to make the thing deceptive in the sound department as well.

Power comes from an LS1 engine that has been braced up with a pair of Holset H1c turbos. These are smallish pieces that were found on older non-intercooled Cummins inline six engines that were installed into Dodge trucks. They aren’t a fancy pants piece that’ll make crazy power, but they are certainly capable of making some boost and can be had for pretty short money. In tandem this pair forced feeds the LS1 hard enough that it makes 555hp to the wheels and 500 lb/ft at 13psi of boost. That will annihilate all but the most serious of street cars in your zip code. The engine has an LS9 cam, 80lb injectors, head studs, and 706 casting heads. We mention that to let you know this wasn’t a “boost it until it blows up” type of build. The dude had a plan and executed it.

The drivetrain is interesting because it uses a built TH350 transmission, the transfer case out of an Olds Bravada (which seems to be a popular piece to use with guys doing AWD GM stuff that has some horsepower) and the front axle out of an AWD Astro van. Both of the axles are gears at 3.08.

There more info at the ad link below so give it a click-ski and check it all out. We dig the hell out of this truck and we’re sure it has shocked the hell out of “performance cars” many times over the last couple years that the seller has had it and used it around town. If we bought it, a paint job would be in order to keep any internet snoopers at bay. Then? Well we’d be at the drag strip trolling the pits to find a guy who wanted to lose a quick $100. Ego crusher? This is it.

I love the stock gauges… the only thing better would be to put in full on bravada trim, since they are so obscure in that generation s10. Good work!

the best part is that its not a gmc jimmy…its an olds bravada! look at the center grille emblem!!

Chief, it is a Jimmy with a Bravada grill. Did you actually read the story?

I actually bought this truck! Ive been talking with the owner over the past few days and just finalized everything. It was originally posted on the s10forum for sale and a local Syclone ?Typhoon guy found it and posted it on http://www.syty.net which is where I started tracking the truck. Saw it pop up on ebay at one point but never sold. I contacted the owner last week and lucky for me he still had it so then a deal was made! I cant wait to drive it!!

Brian – you posted this just to mock me didn’t you?? Thanks amigo… LOL j/k !! This is EXACTLY what I need to do to my 1989 S10 4 x 4. (Now I have a blueprint to follow, sort of)

The bravada grill was used because it had the biggest opening in for air to pass through it and because it was shallow enough to fit the intercooler, I have a stack of grills that were tried on this build from various years of s10’s and the gmc jimmy, the bravada grill wasn’t my favorite choice but that’s what it had to be.
