The Parting Shift: Lapping Bathurst in an Aussie V8 Supercar

The Parting Shift: Lapping Bathurst in an Aussie V8 Supercar

In honor of the announcement of the Aussie V8 Supercar race coming to Austin, Texas in 2013, we went hunting for, and found some kickass video of the cars being run in anger on the most famous track in the big country of Australia. We dig the totally industrial sound of the car between the gear whine and the awesome scream of the V8.

Te transmission in the car is a sequential shift jobbie that doesn’t appear to need a clutch to help it along as the driver is popping the handle quickly in some section of the course. Watchi him work the wheel, grab gears, and lap one of the most famous race tracks in the world!

That transmission is probably a Hollinger SG, in which case he isn’t using the clutch because it’s a dogbox.

My favorite race track in the whole world, the right hand kink on the back side of the coarse, run flat out in high gear, WOW, that separates the men from the boys right there.

Ya gotta love Bathurst…in Australia, this race each September , 1000 kilometres starts about 7:30 AM, finishes about 5:00PM – all Aussies sit and watch the live coverage or go there to watch – I, like most, remember watching since they were little kids. Do a youtube search for the glory days of the 70’s – GTHO Falcons, Mad Max shape Falcon coupes (which is what I drive), GM had their cars of course too and Chrysler had Chargers (nothing like US ones) that ran factory tripe weber 6’s that made over 300 hp stock…

Mate,I’ve been there a few times for the week;if you are into V8’s,put this event on your bucket list-you cannot explain the atmosphere; my whole year is based around that one sunday in October, the day the whole world comes second to the best race and racetrack in the world.
You have to watch the telecast from kickoff(6:30 am in my state ),to the finish at around 5:30 that day.We have a heap of mates around, run a pool, and Wild Turkey cans are first lap breakfast. They call it The Great Race, with good reason!!
