It is about time for lots of the Chevrolet Caprice cop cars that departments across the country bought when they first hit US shores to be turned out at auction. That means lots of these things will be hitting the hot rodding world in the not too distant future and while they likely won’t be killer cheap at first, prices will drop like stones in a lake after a year or two. The cars are interesting because they have an all aluminum 6.0L LS motor in them, four doors, and the kind of cool beefy cop parts that hot rodders love. Whether we’re talking about stronger chassis, hardcore suspension parts, or cooling systems designed to survive really gnarly conditions and treatment, these are cars designed to be bombproof and functional.
Regular Car Reviews recently got hold of a 2012 Chevrolet Caprice cop car from a guy who scored it at auction and they drove it to share their impressions with the world. What did the come away with? Well, the thing hauls ass but it ain’t perfect (not that we expected it to be). From the way the department turned the car out to the nature of the interior and even some of the wear and tear on the engine when it was purchased, this car lived a hard life that plain miles on the odometer just don’t show.
All this being said, watch the video and tell us if you would buy one. We’ve kind of wanted one for years but the opportunity to purchase has not presented itself. The parts availability thing is kind of weird and while the video claims that this car is basically a G8, it technically isn’t.
Whaddya say?
Yes! Been lusting after these since they came out.
Complaining that Autozone can’t lookup parts for one is like complaining that Wal-Mart doesn’t stock Drag Radials.
I’m always checking out all classified sites for these cars. Price range is all over the place. Hopefully next year there will be one in my driveway.
Listening to that was like the pain you’d feel from someone trying to place a fire hydrant up your rear.
God that was awful. Just awful.
Meanwhile there are a zillion of em available in Australia, any trim level you like, for cheap – wonder what importing to USA is like?? The gumtree search below is just 2012’s – search `statesman’ if you’re not fussed about year, saw an early 2000’s one the other day , on road, with an LS, for $1,500 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-2012+caprice/k0?fromSearchBox=true
HA..I bought a GM demo ..my insurance lady said the vin # is wrong ,,no cars start with the #6…..IT did ….I still have the PPV’s owner’s manual ..15 $ if anybody is interested 🙂
I’d love to have one but Geebus are parts expensive! One hint if you get one… DON’T WRECK IT!!! Just a couple of headlights and a front cover will bankrupt you!
