The early part of the 2016 J&A Service Company pro mod season was a wild affair. We’re talking wrecks and craziness the likes of which were happening at a very high rate. Two of the guys who had a completely nutty early part of the year were Steven Whitely and Shane Molinari. These two guys had one of the wilder pro mod incidents I have ever laid eyes on at the end of a qualifying pass in Atlanta, which is the third race on the pro mod season.
As you will see, Steven Whitely streaks across the finish line and pulls the parachute. The car immediately changes lanes to the left where Molinari and his turbocharged car are making some pretty good steam on that end of things as well. Molinari yanks the ‘chute handle and then sees that he is rapidly approaching the back of a Cadillac and either makes an evasive steering maneuver or the whacks the brakes. Either way, his car goes shooting across to Whitely’s side of the strip and bashes the wall over there.
This was probably the first time I have ever see both competitors on a run crash…into the wall in the other guy’s lane. It should be noted that both cars were repaired and returned to competition before the season ended with Whitely returning in short order and Molinari coming back about mid-year.
The J&A Service pro mod schedule has expanded to 12 races for 2016 and that means more action and more craziness. We’re down with that program!
