Drag Video: The Billy Ray Cyrus Video For Real Gone Was Made At The Drag Strip! Cool Watch

(By Greg Rourke) – You’ve likely seen Sheryl Crow’s video of “Real Gone” which she wrote for the movie Cars, but were you aware Billy Ray Cyrus did a cover shortly after?  I like Sheryl’s version, as well as the realism of Cars. I feel Billy Ray’s video captures the feel of just about any Saturday night bracket race in the country.

Shot at Music City Raceway in Nashville on what appears to be a regular bracket race night, it captures the whole experience. Except the sounds and smells. Billy Ray strolls through the staging lanes greeting racers, shots of racers under the hood, and racers being directed into the waterbox. One badass Nova shown often is powered by an inline 6. We see the ‘tree counting down for a handicap start, one in car shot has the racer looking over his shoulder making sure he beats his opponent by just enough. Typical bracket racing stuff.

I’d like to see the racing action in more than two second clips, but then it is a music video and the directors always seem to feel we have very short attention spans. Watch it a few times to take it all in, I did.
