This 1960 Bonneville Convertible Has A 389, Tri-Power, And A Four Speed That Looks Wrong But Is Totally Right

When we get our time machine perfected, we’re planning on making a trip back to 1960 and if there was any question about what car we’d want to be driving, it has now been answered. This one. How about this monster drop top from the dawn of the high performance war that would come to define the next decade of automotive history. This red beast was one of the baddest factory cars someone could get their mitts on in 1960 and it seems to have been optioned to appeal to the cruiser lifestyle as well as the drag strip.

The car has a 389 with tri-power which made a hair less than 350hp and 430 lb-ft of torque, it was equipped with the heavy duty eight lug wheels, and most cooly it has a four speed manual transmission. Like us, when you look at the interior you may think to yourself, “AH HA! Not original! That looks like it was swapped in from a Corvette, shifter and all!” That’s basically because it was, right from the factory. It is a T-10 four speed and from the shifter to the plate that has the pattern on it, the thing is all Corvette. It looks pretty weird with that stubby little shifter down there, right? Normally we’re used to seeing cars from this era with the three foot long handle climbing out of the floor like a vine. Not in this car or any other rare ’60 Bonneville four speed we were able to find photos of. Neat, right?

The car has just over 100,000 original miles and was a one owner car for more than three decades of its life up until the early 1990s. There’s all kinds of maintenance records and history from the previous owners and the price tag reflects the comparative rarity of the car. The seller wants $160,000 for the car. OOF. Even more reason for the time machine.
