We Pick the Drag Week Winners…Do You Agree?

It is officially crunch time on Drag Week 2011 presented by Gear Vendors. Tomorrow is the last day of competition  and there are still a couple of really close battles in the various categories that make up the event. The class winners will be crowned tomorrow, but we’re going to pick the winners, as we see them prior to the race. Let’s see how well we do!

Unlimited — Larry Larson has Joe Barry covered by a significant margin (7.57 to 9.19 seconds) coming into te final day. So long as Larry shows up at the track and runs down, even on a very safe number, he’ll win again. If he slips up, Barry is the next closest guy and would certainly benefit from it. Most likely he would win the Unlimited title but not the overall crown. We’ll explain in a minute.

Pro Street Power Adder – Michael Roy in his stampeding Monte Caro has about seven tenths of a second over his closest rival, Doc Fox. The good Dr. needs to show up, do his thing, and cross his fingers that Roy cannot get his car down the track!

Pro Street Naturally Aspirated – Dr. James McEntire and his red Camaro are leading the Pro Street N/A class by more than a half a second over Charles Price and his Elky. McEntire has run Drag Week a few times and previously had the quickest naturally aspirated car in the event. This holds true for 2011 as well. He needs to get to the track, lay down a niner and call it a week!

Modified Power Adder – Here’s where things get interesting! The Camaro owned by Todd Maschmeier currently leads this class by three tenths of a second over the Nova wagon of Rick Prospero (8.21 to 8.58). His car is also the second quickest currently overall. That means if something happens to Larson, he would be in the running for both his class title and the overall title. An Unlimited car has won the overall every year, so this would be a first, were it to happen.

Modified Naturally Aspirated – Gary Satterlee stands as the last living car in this class. Four other competitors have bitten the dust along the ride, or at the strip this week. His 10.26 second average will lock the class up with the successful completion of a run tomorrow.

Big Block power Adder – Scott Smith and the dented grey Malibu lead this class by nearly two seconds! He is also the third quickest car in the event behind Larson and Maschmeier. Smith’s average is a blazing 8.42/172!

Big Block Naturally Aspirated – Collin Williams, driving a 1999 Camaro SS leads all comers in this bracket by nearly one full second. The car has been very consistent and has run an average of 9.65 this week.

Small Block Power Adder – Tim Reed’s bitchin’ Pinto, which he desperately wants to run 7s in, currently leads SB/NA by nine-tenths of a second. It ran 8.02 seconds twice at Tulsa, seemingly flipping Tim the bird and saying, “Dats all I got!” Reed needs to make a lap and he owns it.

Small Block N/A — The tightest race of the entire competition comes in this class. Alan Crump leads Jake Steiter 10.42 to 10.44. Both of these guys will literally be going for broke tomorrow. You’ve got nothing else to conserve for, this is it. If you blow it up, you have to push it on the trailer. Kitchen sinks will be thrown…this one is too close to call!

Gasser/AFX – Another barn burner will pit current leader Mike Cox against Keith Fox. The two are spread by only a couple hundredths. Both, high twelve second cars, they about as even a match as they come. These two guys will be shedding ballast and whatever else they can find. Two hunny is not a lot of time. Too close to call!
