Cool barn finds are an awesome part of the car hobby. Finding one is like hitting the gearhead lottery and in some cases it is like hitting the actual lottery. For BangShift reader Jeremy Holt, his find was waiting right under his nose. He and his brother ran across a 1969 VW Beetle that had been off the road and garaged since 1969. After telling their pop about it, the Holts descended on the car and bought it, cheaply, accordigng to Jeremy. Their plan is to get the car running and give it to Jeremy’s mom as she had one just like was found in the garage when she and Jeremy’s pop got married.

Having lived in central NY state for the entirety its life, the VW is in great shape. Road salt and ice melting chemicals typically make old VW sheetmeal evaporate at an alarming rate, often leaving shards of an actual body and floor pan to work with. Not such trouble with this unit according to Jeremy. At last check, he said that they were going to put a new coil on it to see if they could get the little four banger to fire up as it spun freely but made no spark on their first attempts.

With rot free floor and a battery tray that is totally intact, these guys hit the northern US VW barnfind jackpot. Jeremy is a hard core muscle car guy, so the VW isn’t exactly his dream machine, but even he can appreciate scoring an unmolested automotive time capsule.
