Scrapple, Your Guide To The “meh”-Worthy News! This Week: Guess Who’s Back, Back Again…

Scrapple, Your Guide To The “meh”-Worthy News! This Week: Guess Who’s Back, Back Again…

Welcome to the halfway point of the year! Six months down, six months to go…and we’ve got all summer ahead of us! Since there’s a myriad of shows, races, events, builds, and other reasons to get off your hindquarters and get outside, we’ll just hurry up and get you a quick bite of leftover news to chew on. Here’s last week’s Scrapple:

1. Because it worked well the last time, right?

IMSA and World Sporting Consulting, the owners of the Touring Car Racing series, will debut a TRC class for next year’s season. The layout is simple: front-wheel drive, four/five door vehicles that are produced by mainstream manufacturers, a production-based 2.0L four cylinder with up to 350 horsepower, and sequential paddle-shifted six-speeds. On one hand, any racing involving realistic vehicles, we like. On the other hand, we look back twenty years to the North American Touring Car Championship and think that this ship is destined to sink. What do you think?

2. WHY WON’T YOU JUST DIE ALREADY?!!

Looks familiar, right? Meet the NEVS 9-3. No, it’s not a Saab, it’s National Electric Vehicle Sweden, which is owned by Chinese investment groups, who are building a fleet of 9-3 and 9-3x vehicles for a “mobility project” in the Chinese city of Tianjin. We just want to point out one thing: the second generation 9-3, on which this car is based, first appeared in 2003 and is based on GM’s Epsilon platform. You know that chassis best for the 2004 Chevrolet Malibu. Good luck, NEVS…

3. Oh, give me a home…

Meet the Havelaar Canada Bison. It’s a dual-motor electric pickup that is designed with Canadian conditions in mind. Nobody is sure if this truck will go into production, but with the Workhorse W-15 and the rumored Tesla pickup floating around the rumor mill, it’s not out of the question.

4. What did you think was gonna happen?!

Three block long burnout in a Nissan Skyline. Dude.

5. Can’t wait to see how this pans out!

Hoarders. Collectors. Flippers. Anybody who is instrumental in finding the newest, hottest model and bagging them away in the hopes that they will make a fortune at an auction later on in life…well, I’ll say it: they suck. FCA has been trying to fight against these types with the Hellcats and Demon, and now it seems that Porsche has had their fill of the BS as well.

Speaking to Car and Driver recently at an event, Andreas Preuninger, the head of Porsche’s GT road car development team, had this to say: “I personally like to see my cars being used. That’s what we build them for. They are just too good to be left to stand and collect dust.” Our kind of guy! So what is Porsche doing about it? Right now, it seems that Porsche is monitoring buyers who are trying to drive certain options, like a fully manual gearbox, to certain cars…you know, manipulating the system so that their rare model is even more valuable. Barring them from the wait lists for upcoming vehicles is a start.

The cop should have the Skyline towed and inspected for emissions, headlights…all things US. Pay to play kid!

  2. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

An electric pick up designed for Canadian conditions?

When the sub zero temperature drains the battery life leaving you stranded in the middle of grizzly bear country you would curse the name of Tesla….

It’s mainly for the yuppies in urban areas of Canada. No way you could trust having such a short range with long recharge times in the desolate areas further north. An optimistic 200 mile range with a 8-10 hour recharge time is pretty inconvenient.

Bryan, you need to work on you arithmitics.

July 1 is halfway thru the year but I’ll let it slide.

Technically, July 2 at noon is 1/2 way through the year. Unless it’s leap year, then it’s the end of July 2. Just saying, mathematically. lol
