Well the cars are running and the impound area has some “customers” inside of it who have used the short amount of time they have to work on the car inside impound to be ready for the morning. One of the cool things about setting a record is that you have an hour to get to impound after the run and once in there you have a couple of hours to service your car in order to have it ready for record contention the next day. If you make a qualifying run at 8am and you end up there at 9am, you have the rest of the day to drink beer and hang out. Conversely if you manage to make one of the last runs of the day to qualify, you have a hustle on your hands once you pull through the ropes!
The long course rumors are seeming to be true. A few competitors that we have spoken to said that it is tough sledding in spots out there. That may limit the number of huge speeds we see this week but we’ll still see plenty of records. And you never know. One of the most impressive records that Speed Demon set was a few years ago on salt that everyone had written off. Then Poteet went out there and just blasted through like a locomotive.
Kicking myself that I can’t be there this year, and I also wanted to see the eclipse which happens in a couple of weeks.
Thanks for the images. Any chance of some video?
I’m still waiting for a glimpse of The Buzzards and Bob Duncan’s zombie-rod and hopefully he’ll be running his Triumph as well.
Oh yeah, hopefully we also can see Mike Noonan from NZ with his Moto Guzzi!
