This Restored 1970 Ford Econoline Pop Top Camper Van Is Road Trip Perfection

Any regular reader of BANGshift will know that I have an addiction to motorhomes, camper trailers, and vans among other things. I don’t personally own a van, but I have wanted a cool window or camper van for a long time. After all, think about how much fun you would have cruising one cross country. Pack up the dog, the kids, and the spouse, and let all 302 cubic inches of Ford power this bad boy wherever your heart desires. The photos show how clean it is, including straight down the side shots that show how straight the sheetmetal is, and just how cool the interior is as well.

Here is all the info from the seller:

INTERNATIONAL AND OVERSEAS BUYERS WELCOME!  PLEASE CALL ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS AT (76O) 8O5-8038. SERIOUS BUYERS ONLY PLEASE.  Pictures do not do this van justice.  This is an incredible and very rare 1970 Ford Econoline Van Camper that was originally produced as a Western Wagon by Chinook based out of Washington.  It has been beautifully restored and is not your typical van.  The paint and body are gorgeous.  This was restored from a very nice original paint example.  It has zero rust and has never had any.  The floorpans and undercarriage are excellent, as you would expect from a lifelong California van. The body is excellent and extremely straight.  It is powered by a strong 302 cubic inch Ford V-8 mated to an automatic transmission.  It has factory air conditioning.  It blows cool but not ice cold.  It needs to be charged.  It runs well, shifts well, drives well, and has plenty of power for cruising up the mountain on your adventures.  This van draws a HUGE crowd anywhere you take it.  It is ready to be enjoyed but will also be ideal for your business.  Whether you are an artist or a vendor at Street Fairs in Southern CA, this can be used as your interactive showroom.  People love to get inside, climb around, and smile.  You will lose count of the number of people that want to take pictures with it.  It has an original Pop Top that is great since it gives you a ton more head room inside.  Plus, it is just really cool.  It pops up easily and can be done in seconds by one person.  Retractable step that goes up and down in sequence with opening the side doors.  Pop-out side windows.  Most of the camper stuff was removed and the interior was custom designed, one of a kind, and professionally done.  Custom surfboard style skimboard table.  Beanbag chair and all of the pillows are included.  The upholstery is still like new.  There is plenty of storage underneath the benches for all of your gear or your products.  It is an excellent example but not perfect either.  The dash pad has a few minor cracks.  You can easily get new reproduction dash pads but it has not been done.  The air conditioning vents have some minor cracks. The front passenger area has not been carpeted.  It is easier for the beach and cleanup with floor mats that can be shaken right out.  Nothing big but I want to be upfront and honest about everything ahead of time so the only thing you think about when you get it is how much you love your new van!  Like new Moon style wheels with good BF Goodrich Radial T/A raised white letter tires.  This is an excellent example of an early Ford and would be difficult to find another one like it.  It is not a perfect Concours example either so please be realistic with your expectations.  I do not believe anybody will be disappointed with it. It would cost a fortune to have this van built today. The vannin craze is huge right now, especially here in Sunny Southern California where they can be driven year round. Prices have gone through the roof lately especially on the vintage cool stuff, Chevy and Dodge included. I already have another 1967 orange Shorty named the General Lemmy with all modern drivetrain/suspension and my dog Johnny Cash likes it better.  I am also selling my red 1964 Econoline Shorty Show Van for the same reason.  Plus being the rocket scientist that I am, I just bought a one of one 1963 Econoline Motorhome that is going take up a good amount of my time and FAR more money when I restore it.  Clean, clear CA title in hand with current CA registration.  No smog ever needed. Tow your vintage Airstream across the Great Old US of A in style!  I am located in Cardiff, California in North County Coastal San Diego.  Thanks!

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

Oh my God – what are you guys trying to do to me?

The thought of this thing of complete and utter beauty will be seared on my brain for ever and will get in the way of my musical career. This is way better than the British “Dormobile” campers that were based on Bedford CA, BMC, Ford or VW vans as it actually has the power to escape its own exhaust fumes and hasn’t rotted down to the ground.

Go and find some other Ford addict to torture!
