Priceless: This Look At The Original Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Is Beautiful And Cool

Priceless: This Look At The Original Rolls Royce Silver Ghost Is Beautiful And Cool

110 years ago the very car you see both above and below these words rolled off the production line. At the time it was built it was special but today? Today special does not really begin to describe it. The 1907 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost was the world standard of automobiles at the time and the way that Rolls proved it was to put the car through a series of reliability trials that would test every inch of the thing’s construction, drivetrain, and construction. The car got the nickname “The Silver Ghost” because of the fact that everything you see that shines is silver plated, not chromed. This is literally the original Silver Ghost.

One of the topics touched upon in this video is value. We believe the woman narrating the film is 100% correct in saying that there’s really no way to place a value on this car anymore. Unlike the Ferrari GTOs that sell for 10s of millions, this car isn’t a racer, it is a foundational piece of automotive history and it cannot be denied that elements of this car were adopted by virtually every one of the hundreds of early automakers in one form or another.

If you can believe it, the restoration on the car was done in the late 1980s and it still looks this way today. The engine, the body, the silver plated pieces of the exterior, and the paint all look like they were applied yesterday, not 30 years ago.

We’re not huge brass era guys here, but we can appreciate living history when we see it and that’s exactly what this car is. Imagine being the guys hammering this car across parts unknown 110 years ago, taking it places where populations had never seen or heard a car before. It was the space exploration of its day and this vehicle carried them to those foreign, forbidding, and neat places.

Minor history note. In 1907, and for decades after, Rolls Royces were not built on a “production line”. Each were hand built. Henry Ford started building on a production line in 1913.
