Mark the tape! This is me admitting that I am in love with a Ford Thunderbird built after 1957. My normal opinion on these cars (and by normal I mean a steadfast belief) is that Titanic adjacent parking is not only acceptable but encouraged. I am now having to question everything about my life after seeing this video of Tom Kristensen attacking the road course at the Goodwood Revival in a 1959 Thunderbird. The huge car seems way out of place among the little English and Italian cars but wow can it move out. Yes, the others are more lithe in the corners than the American tank but man is it fun to watch.
The in-car shots with the stock factory steering wheel and dash are spectacular and the whole program is absolutely spectacular. The car looks reminiscent of a NASCAR stock car from the 1950s and we’re guessing that’s either the look they were shooting for when building it or it is the car’s actual heritage.
All the cars on this track are cool but the big Thunderbird rules them all when it comes to being downright ice cold. I’ve never said it before and I may never say it again, but wow, I’m in love with a 1959 Thunderbird.
Congrats. What your experiencing is called class. It comes with age.
Want to see more class? go a few pages back & watch the Put Up or Shut Up Gasser Battle video. Nice to see there are still some class acts pit there.
Thanks Lohnes.
Squarebirds have always been cool!
It was great until the exhaust fell off. The Blue Oval reigned supreme in the St. Mary’s Trophy and the mighty T Bolt came from the back again to win in the first race. But there was not a single Chevy to spoil the fun….
Squarebirds rule…
