Cool car, cool people, cool video. This video feature that centers on a 1963 Impala Hardtop as it attacks the strip in Australia is fantastic. The car has a rowdy small block in it and a Jerico four speed stick shift transmission. The thing just gets hammered on and boy is it fun to watch. The thing we dig about this video is the backstory behind the car. The camaraderie and work that went into getting this big girl into fighting shape is really something and the fact that the car is in Australia is even neater to us.
I have long had a thing for the high performance cars of the early 1960s. Most people look at 1964 as the dawn of the muscle car era when the GTO showed up but I think that they are a little bit late. How can you not consider cars like the nasty Pontiacs, Chryslers, and Chevrolets are muscle cars before ’64? Sure they were not faster than the stuff that came after them (ok in some cases they were) but they really primed the public for what would become a national obsession with performance and horsepower.
We dig when the dude talks about having a “nice, heavy manual car…something unsual”. Yessir, it’s all that and a bucket of bacon. We’re in love and think you will love it too.
