Normally when we talk about stroked diesel engines around here, we’re talking about Cummins inline six power plants. There are multiple options out there on the market for stretching the displacement of the venerable engine and the increases in horsepower and torque that come with more stroke are pretty obvious. Well, here’s a curveball you may not have ever heard about before…the PowerStroker. J&K Engines in Tennessee is a large diesel rebuilder and performance engine shop and they have developed a unique package to get a 360ci Power Stroke out of 383ci and the results are great.
This is a unique situation because the engine combo uses factory parts, but from different engines. Fitting the 6.4L Power Stroke crank into the 6.0L block is one of the most interesting parts of the whole process and it is not a direct bolt in. The guys there, lead by Keith Proctor developed the process to get the crank nestled into the block and work with the rest of the rotating assembly. The pickups with the extra stroke have been insane and this truck, with a really mild combo in it is making huge power. There’s still a factory VGT turbo on the engine, they have not sprayed it yet, and they plan on really making this thing sing in 2018. My mate was a diesel stroker – until he got his jaw broken by a trucker who found him making love to his truck…
