The Whittier Area Car Show In Southern California, Charity Never Looked So Good, Again!

(Photos and Words by Darr Hawthorne) Small town America is alive and well in the SoCal city of Whittier, in that part of town there’s a particularly huge collection of hot rods, cruisers, racers and hot rodding shops. The Whittier Area Community Church also has a number of members who are deeply into our hobby and for the seventh year, the Church’s ample parking lots held nearly 400 customs, classics, trucks, low riders, bombs and hot rods from all over SoCal.

There were lead sled customs, restored and pro street muscle cars, T-buckets, trucks and one of the coolest VW clubs with a beautiful ’52 split-window Bug you’d probably love. Take a look at the photo gallery we’ve got below, because you’ll be surprised at some of the great cars that show up for this event.

This annual Whittier Area Classic Car show is a fundraiser that supports outreach programs at the Whittier Area Community Church and helps fund yearly Serve Weekends, encouraging parishioners to help in the nearby community, providing real solutions for local issues. Like many community-based organizations, the church is always looking for innovative ways to raise money to help in their own neighborhoods. We commend them for using hot rodding to help, hoping more local organizations across the country will do the same.

This isn’t just a plain old car show, there’s plenty of fun going on at this event either among the huge volume of cool rides, bands and gourmet food trucks were on site so that you could eat and dance your heart away, with lots of kids entertainment. The well-organized event, under the guidance of Jim Maher from Whittier-based Good Vibrations Motorsports, has also grown to include two scheduled Cacklefests during the day from nitro dragsters and fuel altereds in front of very enthusiastic fans, with newbies running for cover with tears streaming from their eyes.

Thanks to the Whittier Area Community Church for the invitation and putting on such a great, yearly Whittier Area Car Show.
