When Chevrolet unveiled the famed Mako Shark concept Corvette in the middle 1960s people went nuts. Obviously that car provided loads of inspiration on the design front for the C3 generation of Corvette that finished off the 1960s and ran through the 1970s. While the production Corvettes had some of the Mako’s attitude, many people were wanting the literal look of the show car. That’s where the aftermarket stepped in with Mako body kits that people could install to have their own version of the concept car. This is one of those kits installed onto a 1970 Corvette and damn if we’re not loving it.
Our man Rocco tipped us off to this one and the simple fact is that the car is awesome. Clean as a whistle, packing a professionally built big block engine, a four-speed manual transmission, and turbine style wheels, it is a 1970s throwback done so, so right. We even dig the black and silver paint job with its oddly huge triangle on the hood. Oh, did we mention that the big block is breathing through side pipes?
The ad is very thorough and it is also very honest. The seller is straight up front with the fact that this is not some Bloomington Gold wanna be car. It is a fast hot rod that has its nicks, dings, and beauty marks from 40+ years of life on the road. The guy is asking $18,500 and we’d not feel too bad spending that type of money on this car if it was something we had been dying to own. The big block and the four speed really make it for us.
How about you?
I’ll take the whine from that M22 rock crusher any day of the week over the whining of Chevy Hatin’ Mad Geordie!
Just take my money!!!!
wow, I’d love to have it.
I think this Corvette is only using the rear deck and fastback from a Mako Shark kit, not the lengthened nose and exaggerated front fenders, also it has some nice little flares (no flares on Mako). I actually think this one looks much better then a full on one. Yes, sign me up for this one.
My friend had a Mako back in the late 70’s. It looked a lot more outrageous and cartoonish than this one. It also had a wild 70’s type custom paint job. Big time head turner.
