You know how much we love to make tools around here, and so whenever we find a video showing how to build one we’re all over it. One of our favorite tech channels on YouTube is Make it Kustom with Karl Fisher. In this video Karl shows how to make your own dimple die for cheap. What’s cool is the fact that you can use this method to make a variety of dimple die sizes and even some different shapes. If you look at this video you will see how you could use the same, or similar methods, to make a square dimple die or two as well.
If you aren’t familiar with dimple dies, check out the video. Karl doesn’t explane on why you want to use dimple dies, so if you arent’ familiar here is why. When you drill a hole into a piece of flat sheet metal, and then use a dimple die to form a “cone” or dimple in the metal, that cone brings all kinds of strength with it. Adding a bunch of dimples to a piece will make it way stronger, make it look cool, and saves a bit of weight as well. Check it out and see what you think.
Video Description:
On this episode of Make It Kustom, I show you how to make an easy dimple die tool step by step. Anyone can do this at home with a grinder and a welder. I have used dimple dies in the past for the structural bracing on the Model A roadster project.
