(By Tom Lohnes) – Lamborghini stands out among many of its VW group sister companies as the crazy one. With an absolutely wild history, some legendary nameplates, and a great fleet of still-insane road cars today, there really isn’t much they can do better. But, there definitely is one thing. Do you want an off-road Lamborghini Huracan? I sure do, and it appears to be going into production.
Called the Huracan Sterrato, this lifted Lambo debuted in 2019 as a concept car with no real intent of production. Well, with the success of the high-riding Urus crossover and a factory Porsche 911 Safari on the way, the crazy Italians appear to have given the Sterrato the green light. With a total of four new Lamborghini products this year including the successor to the almighty Aventador and a refreshed Urus, there are two models that we don’t quite know of yet. This could very well be one of them.
First off, what is a Sterrato? Well, the word directly translates to “dirt”, which makes sense considering the purpose of this crazy thing. Based on the Huracan Evo, the Sterrato will already start life with a 5.2-liter V10 mounted in the middle making 630 horsepower and 442 pounds of torque, which are definitely impressive numbers. All of that twist goes through a 7-speed DCT, and you can choose between rear and all-wheel-drive, but it is a safe bet that this version will have four driven wheels. On the outside, The Sterrato appears to be quite a bit taller than the standard Huracan, which is good for jumps. Like the concept, it also gets a very cool lightbar on the hood and some nice-looking roof rails for a roof box. Towards the rear, a rood scoop appears to be present, along with the center-mounted exhaust tips burbling the soundtrack of10 screaming cylinders. Nice.
The interior shouldn’t see many changes, but some more supportive seats and maybe some luxury features would be nice, since this monstrosity will objectively be the most practical Huracan. The Evo did get a nice refresh in 2019, so we at least have a good starting point.
To whatever hero buys one of these when they come out and actually off-roads it, the entire car community applauds you. These should be limited-production, and don’t expect prices to start anywhere below $350,000. I’ll take three.
Waiting to see one of these wrapped around a tree, preferably by a 16 yr. old “richy rich”. ( no harmful thoughs intended)
