If you are a first-gen Camaro aficionado then you know that the RPO JL8 brake upgrade was a 4-wheel disc brake upgrade available from your Chevrolet dealership in 1968 and as an actual RPO option you could add to your new 1969 Camaro order form. There were only a few hundred cars ever equipped with the JL8 package, but Rekudo is now offering the parts so you can add a JL8 brake system to your Second-Gen Camaro as well. Check out all the info below.
REKUDO JL8 4-Wheel Disc Brake System For 1970-1981 Camaro and Firebird
The 4-wheel disc brake upgrade (with Corvette style 4-piston calipers for both front and rear) was offered for the 1968 Camaro as a “Heavy Duty Service” package sold through the parts counter at Chevrolet car dealers. In 1969, the
4-piston disc brakes could be ordered as a Regular Production Option (RPO) JL8 package on production vehicles. With only about 200 vehicles optioned with the JL8 package, finding parts is hard to come by.

The complete JL8 brake system is now available again with upgraded components like forged aluminum calipers, premium rotors, dust shields, brake hoses, spindles, hubs, and other parts. There are several options for caliper finish (with and without the REKUDO logo). This premium brake system can be used with the complete REKUDO suspension system for the 1970-1981 Camaro / Firebird. JL8 brake systems are ideal for use in all high-performance applications.
Fitment Notes:
- 1970-81 GM F-Body: Vehicles must use the whole REKUDO JL8 front and rear brake system since the parts are unique (front spindles, rotors, front hubs, dust shields, rear caliper adapters, calipers, and brake hoses/hardlines). The REKUDO JL8 front brake system must use the front spindle set RK600-02 (since it has the caliper mounts and spindle pin for the front calipers and front hubs). The REKUDO JL8 rear brakes work with the factory GM 10-bolt 8.2″, 10-bolt 8.5″, or 12-bolt rear axles (with staggered shocks) and factory C3 Corvette rear drum-style parking brakes (inside of the hat on the rear rotors). The REKUDO JL8 rear brake system also fits the 1967-1969 F-Body (with the same axles as above).
- 1965-1982 Corvette: Vehicles can use the REKUDO calipers and brake hoses (brake hoses are attached differently to the caliper and must be used with the REKUDO calipers). The rest of the brake system can retain the stock factory parts. The REKUDO front hubs (1969-1982 Corvette only) and rotors are the stock factory size and dimensions and will fit the Corvette.
- Minimum 15-inch diameter wheels are required for caliper clearance. Low-profile wheel weights may be necessary for some wheels.
